Being a member of the Deezer, I am already privy to a superb array of music. What I did not expect was an email out of the blue while at work, inviting me to go and see Metronomy for their first Deezer session. I was one of their top streamers. This was to be held at Hclub in Covent Garden. Matthew and I decided that the trip from Birmingham and back in one evening was warranted for this most momentous band.

Alas we did not eat here. Though I will say the cider they have on tap is quite super and reasonably priced for London. One always expects the dreaded “£9 pint” which doesn’t really exist. Or so my London Lady Emily tells me. Now, I didn’t bother to take any videos of the session because I knew that I would have access to the full recording come Monday, but I did take one photograph:
The session itself was on the short side, only 37 minutes. I am not entirely sure that it justified the 4.45 hour journey there and back. But it was superb. They ran through the singles on their new album Forever. Our favourite was and remains Salted Caramel Ice Cream. Do listen to it below.
Then to close the show, they played The Look and The Bay, two of their most popular pieces, and for good reason. Overall, this was a really enjoyable night and well worth the time to go to London. The atmosphere was electric and the people in attendance were so young compared to the usual gigs I attend. This is the price you pay for admiring the greats like Todd Rundrgen, Sting and Marc Almond.
As you know, Metronomy won album of the month this month. I really recommend it. And do pop into Hclub if you can.
